In this lesson he tackles the often frustrating medium of watercolor. First he introduces the materials and basic concepts of “alla prima” painting, meaning “at first attempt” in Italian. He’ll show you how to harness the bleeding and soaking tendencies of the paint and water to adjust your composition and be cautious with your application. He does one demonstration of a figure model from photo reference, which you can find attached to this page.

In this lesson, he shows the ease with which you can “draw” with paint. As he pushes and removes his medium around with paper towel, treating the thick oil paint a lot like charcoal, you’ll learn that oil paints aren’t as daunting as they seem.
