Learn to generate, modify and render materials for 3D video games and productions In a video game the scenario is not only the environment, but it is part of the game and its development depends on the ability with which the character moves through it. The materials and textures, therefore, are part of the user’s experience. Angel Fernandes is a 3D artist and works as environment artist , creating materials and textures for games like Hellbound, Drone Strike Force, Quantum League and Endless Legend.

In this course he will teach you how to create textures and rocky materials, for video games and 3D productions, using Substance Designer. In addition, you will learn the basics to be able to develop any other material from scratch.

What will you learn in this online course? The first thing you will do is to know the work of Angel Fernandes, who will also talk about his main influences.

Then he will speak to you about Substance Designer and you will see why today it is the standard software in the video game industry. It will explain what a PBR workflow is and the reasons why you should use it. In addition, you will discover the program interface, the nodal system and some of its nodes.

Then you will compile a series of references that will help you create your rock material with Substance Designer.

Next, you will create your material from scratch: first you will pay attention to maps Height and Normal, then with those of Roughness and Base Color . You will also create parameters that allow you to modify, in real time, certain elements that make up the material to create other variants of it.

You will learn to generate renders in Marmoset that you will then retouch in Adobe Photoshop to achieve a perfect finish. And finally, Angel will give you some tips to show your work effectively in your portfolio.

What is this course’s project? At the end of the course you will be ready to create materials and textures for video games and 3D projects.

Requirements and materials No previous knowledge is necessary, since Angel will guide you through the whole process and will teach you the interface and the fundamental tools of the software that you will use to create textures.

With regard to materials, you will only need a computer in which you must have installed Substance Designer, Substance Player, Marmoset Toolbag and Adobe Photoshop.
