Training level – intermediate ( basic working knowledge of houdini )。Hello everyone and welcome to Texturing in COPs the lost alien project. That’s a pretty long name because even though the primary focus of the training is texturing using the new COPs in Houdini 20.5 this is a complete project done from scratch entirely in Houdini. The training will cover a variety of topic’s including,
Character modeling
Rigging using kinefx
Hard surface modeling
Uv unwrapping
Texturing using cops
Pyro sims
Building shaders using materialx
And finally lighting and rendering the entire scene using Karma xpu. alien model – model the alien using a vdb and other poly modeling tools
alien rig – generate the bones for the alien model using kinefx
Model spaceship seat – use polyextrude and poly slice to model the seat
Spaceship body interior – use standard ply middling tools to make the ship interior
Control panel and Joysticks – use the interior curves to build the controls for the spaceship
Pose the alien – use the kinefx setup to pose the alien inside the spaceship
Exterior spaceship body – model the exterior using curves and revolve
Headlights – modeling the headlights for the spaceship using basic spheres and clip node
environment – modeling the sign and the grass for the environment
Alien texturing setup – setting attributes on the alien body to use in the texturing process
alien cops setup – using the attributes and fractal noise in the cops the texture the alien
alien eye cops setup – building the eye texture using custom uvs, noise maps and ramps
spaceship body cops setup – using noise maps and stamp points node to texture the spaceship
control panel cops setup – using sdf shapes to build a UI for the control panel
number plate cops setup – using sdf shapes to make a phone icon for the number plate
headlights cops setup – making as normal map for the headlights using the tile pattern node
cow sign cops setup – using sdf shapes to make a complex farm sign and cow logo
Solaris setup and lighting – importing the models into Solaris and lighting up scene
Shader setup – building all the shaders for the scene by using the textures built in cops
Pyro sim and shader setup – making a simple pyro sim for the exhaust of the spaceship and setting up the shader for the pyro sim.
